Safe Haven For Children

Providing a Safe Haven for Children on Their Way to a Brighter Future

According to mid-2018 statistics from the University of Cape Town (UCT) on children in South Africa, there are about 19.7 million kids in our country, out of a total population of an estimated 57.7 million people. That means that approximately 34% of the people in our country are under the age of 18. Faced with poverty, disease, disability, crime, violence and more, a large portion of these kids are in dire need of a dedicated safe haven for children. Without additional support, they do not have the means to look after themselves or to create a sustainable future.

So, how do we solve such a seemingly insurmountable problem?

The unfortunate truth is that there is no simple answer. But, while we cannot address the plight of youth in need in this country in one go by a simple wave of a magic wand, it also does not mean we are helpless when facing this daunting challenge. By working together, we can provide a safe haven for children in need.

This is exactly what Abraham Kriel Bambanani strives to do.

Abraham Kriel Bambanani is a registered non-profit organisation that provides a safe haven – which includes care and skills development – for traumatised children and youth in need in the greater Johannesburg area. We support – in the form of shelter, physical care, rehabilitation and skills development – those kids who have been subjected to trauma, abuse, molestation, poverty, neglect and unemployment. We do this via a combination of residential care, community services and educational programmes.

Ways you can help us provide a safe haven for children in need

As a non-profit organisation, there is no way we can do the wonderful work we do without the support of the public, and of the private business sector. Here are just some of the ways you can help us provide a safe haven to children:

  1. Make a once-off or monthly donation via Snapscan or EFT
  2. Check our website for special items our various programmes require, such as second-hand cell phones, or stationery
  3. Food hampers, treat hampers, and toiletries hampers are a great way to help families
  4. Report child abuse – Contact the police at 10111 or go to your nearest police station. Alternatively, phone Childline (08000 55 555) or Child Welfare SA (0861 424 453/011 452 4110)
  5. Host a child through our holiday friends programme
  6. My School card – Nominate Abraham Kriel Bambanani as the beneficiary
  7. Volunteer your time to help with tasks, such as homework and extra lessons, mending clothes, maintenance, admin, and more
