Counselling changed Karabelo’s life

Karabelo submitted a story to the “Cadbury Dairy Milk Glass & a Half Project presents: There’s a Story in Everyone” competition that was run during the last few months of 2020. His story was one of the few to be selected for publication in a book. This achievement would not have been possible for the boy a year ago.

Karabelo lost his mother at a very young age and his aunt took over as his guardian.  Two years ago, he discovered that the person he thought were his mother is not his biological mother at all, but his mother’s younger sister. He was constantly disappointed by his biological father, who would promise to visit him but would not show up and made no effort to provide for him. This affected Karabelo emotionally and psychologically. His behaviour changed. He became violent, angry, rude and disrespectful towards adults.

Karabelo is smart, but his anger issues affected his school performance. He clearly needed professional counselling and he received it

His counselling was supplemented with an intervention and the emotional support provided by the drop-in centre staff. His behaviour started to change and his school work improved. In the first term of 2020 his marks were good and in the 3rd term they were excellent – he achieved six distinctions.

Karabelo is now a very happy child with a great life ahead.

There’s a Story in Everyone” kompetisie.
